Notes from our first climate cafe with Cllr Craig Simmons and researcher activist Jo Hamilton

On Saturday March 9th 2019, we held our first climate cafe event at WOCC: ‘Climate emergency – what next?’

Just under 40 people joined us to hear Cllr Craig Simmons of the Green Party talk about the progress towards reducing carbon emissions in Oxford, and Oxford City Council’s declaration of a Climate Emergency, which was passed in a unanimous vote at the City Council meeting in January this year; and exploring the emotional dimensions with researcher and activist Jo Hamilton.

Participants then joined in group discussions at three tables – one about the political aspects, led by Cllr Simmons; one about emotional aspects, facilitated by Jo Hamilton; and another exploring citizens’ assemblies, facilitated by Liz Goold, a member of the Oxford Democracy Cafe’s Citizens’ Assembly for Oxford working group.
