Message from the Midsummer Meander organisers

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our Midsummer Meander this weekend!
It was a massive collective effort which wouldn’t have happened without the incredible support of…
  • Mani and his team of West Oxford Pioneers
  • Groovy Su and the upcycling artistry of year six at West Oxford Primary School
  • The West Oxford Fun Day organisers for taking up the river theme suggestion for their event
  • 2 bands of indie-folking musicians and their dedicated team of roadies
  • 3 fish-tastic crafters (Josie, Mim and Groovy Su -again) encouraging the creation of a shoal of fish at the fun day
  • 3 collaborating community groups and their amazing LCWO, OLH and WOCORE volunteers and supporters
  • 6 bakers of scrumptious cakes
  • 9 enthusiastic hydro guides
  • 22 artistic householders and groups with their amazing river themed displays
  • and the wonderful community of West Oxford who came meandering around our trail

In total we recorded 340 visitors passing through the hydro site over the weekend, with an incredible 140 people joining us during WOCORE’s 10th anniversary celebrations of community owned renewables in West Oxford on the Sunday afternoon.  And that’s despite our managing to clash with a rather diverting sporting schedule.
If you didn’t manage to catch every part of our arts trail over the weekend do not fear – you can see all the amazing artwork online at our website and some of the highlights have been featured in the Oxford Mail double page spread – plus you can watch us on the That’s Oxfordshire TV news here!
Over the weekend we were collecting people’s suggestions as to which plant or animal you would like to see featured on a human sun dial we are commissioning on the site. If you haven’t already been able to participate. do please let us know your suggestions via our survey!

The project is part of a year long celebration of the river in West Oxford “Unlocking the Power of our river”. It is jointly organised by Osney Lock Hydro and Low Carbon West Oxford and generously supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.  You can read more about the project at www.osneylockhydro.org.uk

Thank you once again for your incredible support of community energy,
Mim, Saski and the teams at WOCORE, OLH and LCWO
