FREE WORKSHOPS to help you fight the climate crisis

About this Event

Join us – LEAF (Local Environmental Action Florence Park), RHILC (Rose Hill & Iffley Low Carbon) and Flo’s for this series of expert-led workshops, which will help you make decisions to act on these issues.

Each session will focus on a different topic – see the full list below. Each workshop is open to all to attend, and you can come to the whole series, or simply select one or two to attend, but please book your place(s) in advance via Eventbrite.

These sessions are a repeat of a series of workshops designed and run by LCWO (Low Carbon West Oxford), as part of their 2020 ACT Now programme. Materials and more details of their programme at www.westoxfordactnow.org.

Sessions are on a Wednesday, 7-8.30pm, with about 15 mins of extra time for informal chat afterwards. They are at Flo’s: the Place in the Park, Rymer’s Lane, Oxford, OX4 3JZ.

Session dates, topics and speakers:

4th March: Home energy with Saskya Huggins (Low Carbon Hub) & Gary Irvine (independent energy assessor & LCWO)

Explore how your home energy use affects your carbon footprint and impacts on the climate. Learn about insulation, appliances, lighting and more. Ask questions, share ideas.

18th March: Food with Susan Hutchinson (LCWO), Anais Bozentine (Replenish) and Nina Osswald (Good Food Oxford)

Food is responsible for a quarter of global carbon emissions, and animal products for over half of those. How do our choices make a difference? What are easy “wins”? Can we reduce food waste? Come and share ideas.

1 April: TBC Transport with Alison Hill (Cyclox, LCON, CoHSAT) and Anthony Simpson (EV consultant)

Come and discuss transport issues that affect us all. How can we cycle safely & use more public transport? Are electric vehicles the answer? What about flying?

22 April: Waste with Jenny Carr (WRAP) and Share Oxford (tbc)

How our relationship to stuff and waste impacts on the climate. Learn and share ideas on reducing waste: repair, re-use, borrow and lend and much more.

13 May: How to talk to kids about climate change in a safe and empowering way with Mim Saxl (LCWO & KidsCAN)

Including information and materials useful to parents, grandparents and teachers.

3 June: Money with Rachel Mountain/Josh Brewer (Ethex), Saskya Huggins (Low Carbon Hub) & Fossil Free Oxfordshire

Come and learn how our choices in how we shop make a difference to climate change. How are others using our money – whether in the bank, pensions or insurance? Is it invested in ways that contribute to the climate crisis or help reduce it such as renewable energy? How can we influence changes?

10 June: Feelings with Jo Hamilton, activist & researcher

The chaos in the climate and the decline in wildlife can evoke strong feelings which can lead us to feeling disempowered. Come and discuss in a safe and non-judgemental environment – to enable you to take the action you would like to.

Future date….TBC: Maximising your leverage, with Ruth Mayme and Rita Soares (Oxfam) and Mim Saxl (LCWO)

What really makes the most difference in emissions being reduced and runaway climate change being halted? Where is it worth putting our efforts if we want to make the best use of our time and energy?
