The children at West Oxford Community Primary School are lucky enough to have dedicated school cook Ruth Lyster in charge of their meals, in the school canteen.  We were thrilled to be supporting Ruth to pilot a cookery course to Year 5 students this year, and though the pilot ended prematurely due to lockdown, we hope to continue work with Ruth on the cookery project over the next academic year.

As well as learning some key kitchen skills and getting some basic, tasty, veggie recipes under their belts, the children have been visiting different shops to buy food for their lessons, learning about food waste, and more. It is early days, but we hope this course will be used as a blueprint and becomes shareable resource for schools elsewhere. Look out for news of the course this coming autumn, which we hope will include farm visits, cookery books and more.

And go Ruth, the kids and community are lucky to have you!
