Low Carbon West Oxford

The environmental and social benefits that LCWO will achieve through its donations from WOCR include :

Tackling our contribution to climate change through

• the reduction in CO2 by 35 households each year
• the generation of local sources of renewable energy
• the prudent use and sharing of resources
• the reduction of waste through re-use, reclamation, recycling, use of recycled products
• the use of low carbon sources of food and transport;
• the planting of trees to sequester carbon and reduce flooding

Strengthening our community by

• working together on community initiatives
• developing more secure sources of energy and food
• reducing expensive household energy bills
• developing partnerships between community, council, businesses and others
• influencing local and national government to adopt policies to help communities and business tackle climate change.

West Oxford is already seeing the results of climate change in a very direct way. Severe floods that used to happen once every 100 years are now happening once every 20 years. We have had three severe floods since 2000.
